Digital Tools - Kahoot!

Assalamualaikum and hello to all my dear readers.

I hope today you will keep on being positive and spread excellent vibes around you family and your peers.

In this entry, I would like to show you detailed view on my special ways of  teaching pre-school children aged 5-6 years old.
As you may see, I utilized assessment tool called Kahoot! in my teaching and learning with the children. I teach Al-Barqy subject, which is Al-Quran-based curriculum.

Based on my personal experience of using Kahoot! as a tool to make it easier and exciting for children during learning process, I personally love the graphics and colorful features in the web as my eyes does not feel strained while editing the questions. In fact, I actually enjoy the process of using the tool as it fulfilled children's needs of learning by way of assessing their knowledge after being taught by teacher. Moreover, the tool itself is conveniently fun and amusing to employ as I does not encounter difficulties in using it.

To start the game, players need to enter Game Pin

Then, if they play in Team Mode, they will need to enter their Team Name. In this example, I enter 6 Bestari as it the class that I taught in the video below

Next, I enter the names of selected students in the columns provided

Once we're done with the process, now we can officially start the game!

I realize that students’ involvement after implementing Kahoot! digital tool elevated and their focus in class is higher since the tool itself makes them feel excited and thrilled with its upbeat background music and brightly colored images and elements. It also came in various shapes which will further expand students' knowledge on shapes as well.

Since it is a quiz, they also felt very competitive as all of them tries to be the first one that answered the question which appeared on the screen. Once they answered the question and get the marks, they felt delighted as it fulfilled their sense of accomplishment. The game can also be played one-by-one player mode or team mode. Thus, students can choose which mode they wanted to play. If they choose team mode, it will enhance their teamwork as they must want their team to win the game. Hence, increases their teamwork in term of other subject or task as well. This game also improve their sense of timing as it provides limited time to answer the question, for example 20 seconds per question. Hence, if they answer correctly within the time frame and the fastest speed, they will get much higher score compared to other players that also answer within the time frame but at a slower speed.

Major drawback is that to play the game in Kahoot! , I need to have strong internet connection in the computer in order to let the question pass smoothly from one question to another. If the internet connection is not strong enough, it will interrupt the game flow and the images will load slowly or even does not appear at all. This is turn will impact students' level of attentiveness and makes them felt distracted at the time of waiting for the images to load and resulting to unachieved lesson's objective on that period.
